Christian Calaway
Hi! My name is Christian. I'm a student, researcher, writer, and producer with an interest and focus on pro wrestling history. My love (some would say "obsession") for wrestling was ignited at the age of nine when I discovered my aunt's seemingly endless collection of wrestling VHS tapes. I ravenously and repeatedly consumed her impressive catalog of both commercial video releases and blank video cassettes with recordings of every wrestling show airing on television in her region.
Simultaneously, I flipped through every page of her vast collection of wrestling magazines. And when I say vast, I mean it. She subscribed to every wrestling magazine published... for decades. A voracious reader from a young age, I was incredibly thankful for it. It allowed me to learn about much of the early history of wrestling and the territory system in the days before all that was exposed and readily made available by the internet. My love of wrestling led to an obsession with media and pop culture, in particular, with the unique art form of wrestling and its impact on American culture and society, and how ideas are presented and hearts and minds influenced by media.
I founded LegendsChampionshipWrestling.com in 2005, incorporating the legends of wrestling into new storylines, growing the brand into the largest online fantasy wrestling offering available at the time, with an audience of 80,000 viewers, parlaying that visibility into appearances at wrestling conventions and on several independent wrestling shows. I learned quickly that I didn't enjoy being in front of audiences and worked to find a place for myself behind the scenes. An interest in media studies and media history led me to return to school to finish my education.
I currently reside in Washington, DC, with my husband, John, dog Harley (named after the 8x NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Harley Race), and cat Henry (who was rescued with his name). I'm currently a student pursuing a bachelor's degree in digital media at the University of the District of Columbia. I've also had the distinct honor of serving as a research fellow on the Herbert Denton, Jr., Biography Project.
In my free time, I enjoy watching wrestling (obviously), as well as old television sitcoms. My favorites include "Golden Girls," "Designing Women," and "227." A lifelong Trekkie, I also enjoy collecting wrestling and pop culture action figures.
